The Girls Next Door (aka Playboy magnate Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriend posse Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson, and Bridget Marquardt) released a book last month. The book contains sanitized, PR friendly blather about the women’s lives at the Playboy Mansion, their ambitions, sense of style, personal recipes, special never before seen photos, and, of course, Hef’s take on each of the girls.

So far, at Amazon.com, there are two enthusiastic reviews of the tome. One fan shares her thoughts on the book:

This book was pretty much as expected.

The bad:
-A majority of this book is recaps of each episode up to the end of Season 3. To make it a little fun, they have added a comment on each episode from ONE of the girls. I would have liked to see a comment from each girl, perhaps, or insight from the staff or crew. As it is, there is a lot of wasted space here that could have been made into a real treasure.
-Addresses and phone numbers to the GND sources (trashy lingerie) and places they have gone (Sunset Ranch, Culver Ice Arena). Some people might appreciate this, but I would rather they save the space for what we really want to know and let me just google the sources that I want to find.
-Lack of information on the questions that the girls get asked all the time (make up tips, health tips and, let’s face it, the dirt! - there are a few, but we would all love to see in depth information).

Last month, the girls held a book signing in Las Vegas at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace.

In what is probably the weirdest entry ever into the softcore porno market, Penthouse Pet Lexi Blade attempts to distance herself from the adult industry before her layout even hits store shelves. Some of the comments from her MySpace.com page include:

I accepted being a Penthouse Pet as an outlet for me to express my sensuality and sexuality, and that’s it. (Did someone put a gun to her head and make her pose for the magazine?)

I hope by being a non-porn Pet, this can be a message to other women that nudity is a beautiful thing (She dislikes the Pets who do porn.)

Being a Penthouse Pet is so much fun compared to doing some shlubs taxes each year. (It can’t be fun if you feel the need to distance yourself from those ‘porn’ Pets, does it?)

I shared my microphone with Lexxi Tyler which was quite a task, especially after she made me feel uncomfortable by saying that she was going to convert me to the adult film industry, ahhh! Sorry to disappoint any adult film connoisseur, I plan on using my talents and intelligence for something more rewarding. (Yet another crazy nude model who claims not to be in porn because she hasn’t been penetrated on film.)

My favorite part of the show was making fun of one of the guests who sounded like he was making the radio show into a informercial for his rich men seeking poor hot women dating sites. (Why are you making fun of your clientele?)

Okay, Lexi, we get it, you only wanted to be in Penthouse as a way of getting into the public eye, even though you look down on porn. However, this is not 1992, it is 2008, you’re competing against thousands of girls (based on the popularity of Internet porn), so no one is going to notice or remember that you claim you’re not in porn. They’ll only remember you as a cute naked chick, if that.

Lexi Blade is new, but seems to have already antagonized at least one person, the guy who writes LukeFord.com. He wrote:

Penthouse Pet Paige Summers

Most people do not know that 1998 Penthouse Pet of the Year Paige Summers died of a hydrocodone and Oxycotin overdose in 2003. She was 27 years old. The circumstances of her death are rather shocking. She was dating a pharmacist and real estate investor named Bracey Bobbitt (sources they were engaged to be married) in her hometown of Morgantown, North Carolina. He found her dead one morning in his local lakeside home.

Bobbitt had something a shady past which included being in trouble with his state board of pharmacy, assaults on women, and restraining orders against him, to name a few. Two years after Paige’s death, he himself would die in mysterious plane crash off the coast of Wrightsville Beach in North Carolina. After the crash (which also took the life of a local woman), it was discovered that the plane had no flight plan and had been flying low for over an hour prior to the crash. Locals in the area suspected that Bobbitt was flying under the influence and that maybe the plane had been loaded with drugs. Who knows? Almost three years later, no concrete answers have surfaced (at least none that I could find on the Internet).

Deadly Plane Crash Leaves Behind Serious Questions

Lonny Chin, Miss January 1983, has resurfaced. Unfortunately, she is in prison. Chowchilla, to be exact. Here is the text of the article on her situation:

One day being wined and dined at the Playboy Mansion.
The next day being locked up in jail on drug charges. Can things
that quickly for somebody? For Lonny Chin they did. Lonny was
Playboy’s Playmate for January 1983. Born in England and raised in
Canada, Lonny caught Playboy’s attention so much she was the first
video Playmate. She was almost selected to by Playmate of the Year.
Chin was a fixture at Mansion parties, including the infamous, Pajama
Party. But after the spotlight dimmed, she developed a drug habit
and to pay for her habit she turned to prostitution. Claiming she
did her first line of coke at a Mansion party, Chin soon who develop
a $1,000 a day coke habit.

She is scheduled to be released in August of 2008. Chin says she
will move back to Canada and try to move on with her life.

What a sad tale. A few years ago, another Playmate from Lonny’s era, Charlotte Kemp, mentioned on a Playboy Yahoo Group that she tried to help Lonny during her troubled times.
